Update – Team Members

I know I wanted to do weekly updates, but when life throws you lemons, you make bad pixels.

There has been a move to Silicon Valley, changes in effort, and a contract with an Indian financier.  We are altering from the GoFundMe to bring the donations directly to the site.  Also, we are also shifting focus.  Yes, Celestial Forge is taking a hit.  However, because of the financing from our newest team member, and an easier focus, Red Shift will be developed.  It will be purely a space sim.  It will also be the earlier days of the same game universe that is Celestial Forge.  Because of the simplicity, the focus will be there, but there will be updates here as we progress.

Update – Further Delays

There have been various saddening events in the lives of the artists and coders.  There have been losses in the family of one of our team, personal setbacks that have caused delays in development, as well as issues with security.  We are however, striving to have a PvP arena and sector flying available for New Year’s.  Some of the star systems will be navigable as well.  The PvP will be based on the ships of the eight races with their unique technologies with “standard” ships.  These ships are considered on the low end of medium-sized vessels so will have 2-4 weapons, shield systems, armor, maneuvering and ftl drives as they would in the game.

Updates – Fund Raising

With the donations that we’ve been getting, both from the GoFundMe and local private contributions, we have been updating the systems we have as well as buying some art assets.  We do hope that contributions do continue.

First of all, we’d like to apologize for the lateness of this update (nearly two months).  We have had various system issues, pushing the limits of our system.  We are back up and running, developing world maps and individual star system maps.  With the damage repaired, we are up and running again.

Now on with the news.

Update – Maps, Maps, and More Maps

After a month of work the game-world is nearly complete at it’s highest level, with the hundreds of stars and star systems that make up Explored Space finally set in the heavens and sized and proportioned and lit correctly. With this complete, our team has been doing the more difficult, detailed work of creating the planetary and city environments inside.

With hundreds of solar systems in the game, it’s a huge job, and of course it’s not being done all at once, but testing our ability to create realistic, interesting (and glitch-free) environments for both in-system spaceflight, and character level play is an important step in advancing the project. For that reason we’ve decided to start by focusing on just a few systems, beginning with the human-controlled areas of the game world.

Races – The Bernard

Bernard are large by Terran standards though not giants, most standing almost 2 meters tall with large, thickly muscled, humanoid bodies covered almost completely in soft fur. Warm-blooded mammalian creatures, they have broad faces and broad, barrel chests, resembling nothing so much as the great bears of ancient human myth. Females and Males are sometimes hard for other species – especially fur-less ones – to tell apart, but to other Bernard the distinction is obvious, with females slightly larger, and having rounder faces and bellies. They breathe a familiar nitrogen-oxygen mix and can eat almost anything – true omnivores – making it easy for them to survive alongside humans.

This is the first in what we hope will be a long series of weekly updates from the team here at Dragon Curve Games. Development has been going on in earnest for the last week on our flag game, Celestial Forge. Future updates will reveal more about the races, mechanics, progression systems, and so forth of the game. Game Design Document

The basics of the game mechanics are done as well as item mechanics.

At this time, races, basic skills, the beginnings of special abilities, a list of the “classes” that are achievable upon meeting their requirements, and the basic in game technologies and procs for special features of weapons and armor are either still being considered or are completely done. The database structure is currently being built and the starmap is 80% completed focusing now on the words and what can be found on them.
